Today our team<a href=\"https:\/\/bodengeographie.uni-mainz.de\/arbeitsgruppe\/sabine-fiedler\/\">(Prof. Sabine Fiedler<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bodengeographie.uni-mainz.de\/arbeitsgruppe\/george-janzen\/\">George Janzen<\/a>, together with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-saarland.de\/lehrstuhl\/hornung\/personen\/univ-prof-dr-sabine-hornung.html\">Prof. Sabine Hornung<\/a>, Saarland University) was at the <a href=\"https:\/\/landesmuseum-bonn.lvr.de\/de\/index.html\">LandesMuseum Bonn<\/a> to sample five skulls from the Celtic period. The background to the study is the assumption that at least one of them is a severed head. So-called <em>&#8220;t\u00eates coup\u00e9es&#8221;<\/em> could come from defeated opponents and were an expression of the <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Keltischer_Kopfkult\">Celtic head cult<\/a>, which is why such a find would not be unusual in this context. Heads were often embalmed with the help of resins and tars, which would lead to the introduction of corresponding <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.jas.2018.09.011\">terpenoid markers<\/a> into the bone material.
